SOME FACTS ABOUT RICE

• Although the United States produces only one percent of the world rice crop, it is one of the largest exporters of rice.
• Wild rice grows in marshlands and waterways from Manitoba to the Atlantic Ocean. It is one of the few wild plant foods harvested and marketed in Canada.
• The outer, most nutritious parts of the rice kernel are removed and fed to livestock when rice is milled.
• Broken grains of rice are used for brewing beer.
